Shillong (Meghalaya), Nov28: In a shocking and disturbing series of events, two revered places of worship in Shillong, the Laban Unitarian Church and the Grotto Chapel, were burgled, leaving the community in a state of outrage and distress.
According to information obtained by our team, the burglaries occurred on the night of Nov 27, when unknown individuals broke into the church and chapel premises, making off with valuable items and causing significant damage to the properties.
At the Laban Unitarian Church, the thieves gained entry by breaking the glass window of the church’s office room. Once inside, they ransacked the premises, stealing cash, electronic equipment, and other valuable items.
Similarly, at the Grotto Chapel, the burglars broke into the premises, making off with cash and other valuable items. The chapel’s security systems were also damaged during the incident.
The police were informed immediately, and teams of officers from the Laban Police Station and the Shillong Police Station arrived at the scenes to investigate. Cases have been registered, and efforts are underway to apprehend the culprits.
The Laban Unitarian Church and the Grotto Chapel are revered places of worship in Shillong, and these incidents have sent shockwaves throughout the community. Church members and local residents are outraged by the desecration of the sacred sanctuaries and are demanding swift action from the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.
