Tura(Meghalaya), Sep 9: The Non-Gazetted Employee Association (NGEA) has demanded the revocation of suspension orders against 7 of the leaders of the GHADC employees organization threatening to restart their agitation if their demand was not met within 7 days from today, Sep 9. Further they also sought the cancellation of the termination order of their president, Senora Johny Arengh.
As per the NGEA, Arengh was terminated from service on Aug 6, while 7 other executive members of the NGEA, Brithen M. Sangma (Secretary), Flamingbirth B Marak (Joint-Secretary), Balseng M. Sangma (Adviser), Augustbel R Marak (Adviser) Henyverth Marak (Member) Mento Sangma (Member) and Francis R. Marak (Member) were suspended on the same day.
“The termination was initiated by the principal secretary to the EC based on a resolution taken by the EC led by the NPP on Jul 5. They were not satisfied with the reply to the show cause given by the president and NGEA members,” said the NGEA through a release today.
The show cause was served after a meeting was held by the NGEA in which many employees of the GHADC attended where allegedly COVID protocols were not followed.
The meeting was held on Jul 22 in which the NGEA members maintained that all SOPs and protocols were followed. They had also reminded the EC, through the show cause reply, that similar cases, where protocols were not followed every day as hundreds gathered every day in the GHADC office without following SOPs.
“The EC and the principal secretary never insisted on the public maintaining SOPs for COVID. In fact the CEM of GHADC invited various NGOs and the employees of GHADC for a meeting. There too no SOPs were maintained but when we met for one of Jul 22, maintaining SOPs, they decided to terminate and suspend us,” added the NGOs.
The meeting held on Jul 22 was held to discuss the non fulfilment of promises made to the employees by the NPP led EC that were made on Jun 4.
“We have given a 7 (Seven) Day ultimatum to demand the recalling of the termination and suspension orders issued to our leaders. If the EC fails to consider the demands of the NGEA, we will resume our agitation or take on other future courses of action very shortly,” threatened the employees association.
