Shillong (Meghalaya ), May 17 : 7 returnees from Chennai in a special train tested positive for COVID-19 in Meghalaya in the rapid test conducted at the testing centres.
Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister P. Tynsong in an official statement said Initially 12 tested positive but subsequently four of them tested negative after a test was conducted through RT-PCR test.
He said ,out of 873 returnees from Tamil Nadu, 12 tested COVID-19 positive by rapid diagnostic test (RDT) kits in the state .
Seven of them are from East Khasi Hills, 4 from Tura, and 1 from Ri Bhoi district.
Immediately they were taken to quarantine centre in their respective districts.
“Their samples were collected and sent for PCR test at NEIGRIHMS and Tura Civil Hospital. The results for all 4 from Tura and 1 from Ri Bhoi have confirmed negative, while the results for 7 returnees from East Khasi Hills will be getting on Sunday,” the official statement of Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said.

They all have been sent to institutional quarantine for 28 days.
The state had recorded 13 positive COVID-19 cases – one active case, 11 have recovered, and one died .
