Kokrajhar (Assam),Mar 24: A woman age about 40,was reportedly raped and murdered at Santipur along the Indo-Bhutan border area in Assam’s Chirang district.
According to local citizens,three persons of same village under Runikhata in Chirang district gang raped the woman and later murdered her to cover the crime .
The incident occured on Sunday evening and the family became aware of the incident after she went missing from her home and later spotted her body lying on the roadside in the village on Monday evening.
She was mother of three children and the husband is a daily labourer .
The dead body of woman has been sent for postmortem .
Police arrested two of three suspected culprits who were involved with incident and the third one is absconding .
The arrested have been identified as Matka Mardi,Pucchu Baskey while Mandan Besra is absconding .
A protest demonstration was staged in front of the Santipur police outpost on Tuesday in protest against the incident and demanding strict punishment to the culprits.
Woman activists and local citizens participated the protest demonstration and urged the district administration to take stern measures against the culprits behind the rape and the murder which has created chaos and resentment among the citizens in the area.
A memorandum was also submitted to the chief minister of Assam in this regard .
Various organisations including AASAA, Gorkha Mahila Samiti,AABWWF,BPF women wing have condemned the incident and demanded strong action against the culprits.
