Guwahati (Assam), Dec 5 : One more person in the state , declared a’ illegal immigrant’. and lodged in a detention camp, died at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) here .
Official sources told South Asia Views, that 54 – year old , Naresh Koch, was admitted to the GMCH 10 days ago after he fell SICK at the Goalpara detention camp and passed away on Friday night.
Koch hailed from Mornoi in Goalpara district, was declared a foreigner by a foreigners’ tribunal and sent to the detention camp in March 2018.
“Often the poor and marginalised bear the brunt when they are forced to showcase documents to the satisfaction of the administration ” Congress MP, Gaurav Gogoi, tweeted.
“It doesn’t matter which religion you belong to,” Gogoi further said in a tweet.
Koch is the 29th person to have died at a detention camp in Assam.
According to information available around 1000 people are lodged in the six such detention centres of Assam.
