Guwahati (Assam), Oct 1: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg has arrested two prime suspects – Shyamkanu Mahanta, the organizer of the North East India Festival, and Siddharth Sharma, Zubeen Garg’s manager. The arrests were made today, October 1, 2025, after a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death in Singapore on September 19, 2025.
Mahanta was taken into custody at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport upon his return from Singapore, while Sharma was arrested from a residential apartment in Gurugram. Both suspects were flown to Guwahati and are currently being interrogated by the SIT. They have been remanded to 14-day police custody, allowing authorities to intensify their investigation and piece together the events leading to Zubeen Garg’s tragic death.
The SIT had issued summons to Mahanta and Sharma, asking them to appear before the team, but they allegedly failed to cooperate, prompting the issuance of a lookout notice. The arrests mark a crucial milestone in the investigation, with authorities working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding Zubeen Garg’s death.
