Kokrajhar (Assam),Mar 30 : As the nationwide lock down entered into day 6 on Monday the district here witnessed total shutdown .
While the entire state and the country is battling to enforce the total lock down, in a very positive step around fifty villages in the district have built bamboo barricades in their respective village entry points in order to keep a check on anyone with Covid -19 virus in entering the villages .
The Villages which have built bamboo barricades include,Kanthalguri,Belguri,PuranaTitaguri,Thuribari,Haloadol,Batabari,Pakriguri,Simbargaon,Chalani Batabari,Maoriagaon,Banglabari,Jamguri and are strictly observing the lockdown in the villages as a preventive measure to stop spread of Corona virus among the villagers .
At their own imitative , the villagers erected the barricades to create awareness and maintain the norms social distancing .
The villagers are restricting the entry of unknown person or those who are coming from neighbouring states to the respective villages.
‘ We are strictly restricting the entry to the villages without proper medical test to those who are coming to the villages “,said a villager in Kanthalguri village under Fakiragram police station.
“We decided to erect bamboo barricades at the village entry points to ensure restrictions on known or unknown people entering from neighbouring states”,said another villager at Belguri village in Kokrajhar.
President of United People’s Party Liberal(UPPL) and former ABSU president Pramod Boro has also appealed to all sections of citizens in the state to follow the directions issued by the government and World Health organisation(WHO) to fight COVID-19 outbreak.
He said that this moment is very crucial for all human beings and we must maintain social distance in leading our day to day life.
Boro made an appeal to the young generations of the society not to make unnecessary movements during the lock down periods and stay indoors .
President of Bodo Sahitya Sabha Toren Boro has also appealed all sections of the society to stay at home and maintain social distance.
For maintaining social distance among the citizens in the Kokrajhar town during the nationwide lock down periods,grocery items and vegetables are being distributed among the ward residents under the municipality board area. As of now there are ten wards under Kokrajhar municipality board .
Chairman of the Board, Bishnu Narzary told South Asia Views that the initiative has been taken to maintain social distance and bring awareness on COVID-19 amongst the citizens in the town.
He added that people must maintain social distance and follow all the instructions from the government and WHO for a safe life.He informed that every day two carts carrying vegetables will be moving in the respective wards and would be distributed to the residents at low costs .
