Kokrajhar (Assam) ,June 10: Assam Forest minister Parimal Suklabaidhya formally inauguratesd the newly created Raimona National Park (RNP) today at New Nabinagar near Kachugaon under Gossaigaon subdivision in the presence of BTR CEM Pramod Boro.
The park was accorded national status by the state government on June 5 .The RNP covers a distance of 422 sq kms along the Ripu Reserve forest under Kachugaon forest division of Kokrajhar district.
The RNP has been situated along the Bhutan foothills and is adjacent to West Bengal in it’s boundary in the western side .
The RNP is the third national park after Manas National Park and Orang National Park in the BTC districts.
Minister Parimal Suklabaidhya said that the Raimona National Park will be able to attract tourists in the region and help in creating healthy environment in the state.
He said earlier, the Bodoland region witnessed unrest and violence during the movement period, but now the people in the region are residing in peace and with harmony .
“Raimona National Park would be uplifted with proper implementation of all necessary steps and measures to establish the Raimona National Park in a big way in the state”,he said adding that “people’s help and cooperation support will be required to create a brand image of the park in the days to come “, Parimal Suklabaidhya said.
He said that the state government is ready to extend all help and support to the Raimona National Park .
” Wild animals would be translocated from other parks to the Raimona National Park within a short span of time “,he said.
Minister Parimal Suklabaidhya formally handed over the official gazette notification of the Raimona National Park to the BTR CEM Pramod Boro on the occasion.
BTR CEM Pramod Boro has expressed his happiness after the formal inauguration of the Raimona National Park and hoped that the declaration of Raimona as national park would be able to provide facility for earning livelihood and integration in the region.
” We must conserve natural sceneries and wildlife in the region”, Boro said adding that the Raimona National Park under Ripu Reserve Forest, Kachugaon is home to many species such as Bodoland’s Mascot Golden Langur, Asian Elephant, Royal Bengal Tiger, Clouded Leopard, Indian Gaur, Wild Water Buffalo, Hornbills, various butterflies, bird species and varieties of plants and orchids and it’s preservation is of utmost importance as it is a buffer zone of many species.
While welcoming the 6th National Park of Assam and 3rd National Park of BTR after Manas and Orang National Park he said that National Parks are part of our environment and collective effort is required both from the government and citizens to preserve the flora and fauna .
