Guwahati (Assam), Feb 17 :NRL has tied up with Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) to set up ‘NRL Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Sustainable Materials’ in the IITG campus with an objective to develop Sustainable / Bio-degradable materials from oil and bio refinery streams.
NRL Centre of Excellence ( CoE) for Sustainable Materials was inaugurated on Feb 14 by Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal, Union Minister of Human Resource Development, at IIT Guwahati in the presence of Prof. T G Sitharam, Director IIT Guwahati and S K Barua, Managing Director, NRL.
The Centre is a first of its kind academic-industrial collaborative venture with the broad objective of developing sustainable materials from various waste and byproducts sourced from multiple sectors like petroleum industries bio-refineries and agro-industries.
NRL has extended an initial research grant of Rs. 4 Crore through the CoE to the Chemical Engineering Department for the first project identified for ‘Development of Bio-Degradable Plastics from Refinery and Bio-Refinery Streams’.
This project will facilitate pilot scale production of blown film grade poly (e-caprolecton) resin from biodegradable waste products The Centre will provide a huge boost towards development of green technology, utilization of waste and sustainable materials including bio degradable plastics on a commercial scale.
