Kokrajhar (Assam),Feb 17: Noted activist and former president of All Bodo Women Welfare Federation(ABWWF) Latika Khaklary Hazoary passed away this morning after a prolonged illness at a private hospital in Guwahati.
Hazoary was admitted to hospital few days back due to age related ailments .She breathed her last today morning at around 7 am.She was 69.
Her lifeless body was brought to her native village at Karalalpur near Dudnoi in Goalpara district.
Born on June, 1 1955 , Late Hazorary served as a teacher in Dudnoi and was associated with various women’s organisations mainly caring for the sick and the destitute during her lifetime.
She held the post of president of the ABWWF for two terms from 1996-2000 and actively participated in the Bodoland movement during the 1986 under the leadership of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma.
Late Hazoary was awarded Mahatma Phule Fellowship Award in 2006 and received Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar award in 2012 for her dedication towards social upliftment in the state.
The All Bodo Women Welfare Federation,Bodo Sahitya Sabha,BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary,Assam Social Welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma, BTC executive member Rajib Brahma, Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary,former ABSU president Pramod Boro and several organisations have extended their condolences and mourned her demise .
The All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) mourned the demise of Latika Hazoary. The students union prayed for the eternity of the departed soul and solidarity with her family members and friends.
Her demise is great loss for the Bodo Society, who had contributed to the revolutionary times of the Bodos with her leadership in the Bodoland Movement representing the All Bodo Women Welfare Federation at difficult times of the movement. She led the movement from 1986 January to 1995 as the President of Goalpara District ABWWF. She was tirelessly continuing the Bodoland Movement from the time of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma the then President of ABSU.
Further from the 1996 to 2000 she became the President of Central Committee ABWWF in the second phase of Bodoland Movement under the leadership of UG Brahma the then President of ABSU.
She was known for her dedication to defend the women folk at the time Bodoland
Movement when various atrocities were committed on Bodo Women by the state forces.
She was also iconic as women leader who dared all during the difficult times.
ABSU salutes for her dynamism in bringing up the Bodo society during the difficult times of
Bodoland Movement as a mother figure fighting for the rights of the downtrodden Bodo people,the students union said in a press statement.
