Kokrajhar (Assam),Feb 1: Assam Finance and Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today visited Kokrajhar to oversee the preparations for the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister’s visit here after signing of historic Bodoland Territorial Region accord.
The PM is scheduled to visit Kokrajhar on Feb 7 next to address a celebration to mark the signing of the Bodoland Territorial Region(BTR) accord.
Dr Sarma first paid a visit to Bodofa Nwgwr Greenfield followed by Dotma Goybari and later at Jangkrikhang Pwthar near new flyover to inspect the preparations .
Dr Sarma was accompanied by additional DGP(law & order) GP Singh,IGP( special branch) Hiren Nath and additional director of intelligence bureau(IB) Ms . Rashmi Sinha.
Dr Sarma paid visits to the proposed venues PM Modi is likely to visit after the signing of the BTR accord on Jan 27 last after the tripartite peace talks in New Delhi.
During his visit,ABSU president Pramod Boro,leaders from factions of the NDFB,BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary accompanied Dr Sarma.
He said that the PM visit here has been organised by the Bodo accord signatories,BTC administration and state government to mark the recent BTR accord.
Sarma added that based on the inspection report , the centre would finalise the venues .
Dr. Sarma reitered that the BTR accord would pave way for more upliftment and development in the region.He said that a five member monitoring committee from Bodo accord signatories,different communities and state government will decide on the matter of on inclusion of villages after a through discussion.
On the issue of the upcoming BTC elections ,Sarma informed that the elections to the BTC Legislative Assembly would be held in existing 40 seats and would be increased to 60 would be done within six months.
On the offer made to Paresh Baruah led ULFA-I, to join the mainstream Sarma said that government was ready to talk with ULFA-I ,but not on sovereignty issue .
