Kokrajhar (Assam), Mar 20 : The State Election Commission today indefinitely postponed the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections slated to be held on April 4, next .
The Commission has put restrictions on the campaigns from Sunday till a fresh date is officially announced.
Polling for 40 seats of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) was slated to be held on April 4 next and the counting of votes was to take place on April 8.
In this regard the state Election Commission has issued a notification postponing the upcoming Bodo territorial Council (BTC) .
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Friday, State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar said that the BTC elections has been postponed for an indefinite period due to the outbreak of the novel corona virus. He also said that new dates for the polls will be announced later.
However, the withdrawal of the nomination papers will continue till Saturday , Kumar added. He also said, “We will announce a new date for the BTC polls on time.”
The announcement comes after the Election Body was slammed for not postponing the BTC polls even after the State Health Department had issued several warnings against mass
