Kokrajhar (Assam) , April 30: With the imposition of Governor’s Rule in Bodoland Territorial Council(BTC),the BTC administrator Rajesh Prasad and Principal Secretary Siddhartha Singh assumed their office from today at BTC secretariat here .
State Governor ,Prof Jagadish Mukhi appointed Rajesh Prasad as the administrator of BTC and Siddhartha Singh as Principal Secretary on April 27 after imposition of governor’s Rule in BTC administration.
The Governor of Assam,imposed governor’s rule following expiry of the tenure of the BPF ruled BTC administration on April 27.
Ever since the creation of the BTC ,Bodo Peoples Front has been in power since 2003 till April 27 this year .
After reaching in Kokrajhar today,both Prasad and Singh held a series of meetings with the officials at the BTC Secretariat.
During the meeting the duo said that they would will dedicate their time for the development and welfare of the citizens in the council region .
They urged upon all sections of citizens to maintain social distancing to combat the Coronavirus outbreak.
Within hours of assuming his office, Singh attended in a review meeting with BTC officials and head of line departments and took stock of the developmental activities carried out by BTC administration in the council.He informed that the review meeting discussed in detail about the schemes initiated by council administration on priority basis .
He has urged upon all officials and heads to be dedicate themselves for good governance in the council during the interim administration under the Governor’s Rule.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP and senior BPF leader Biswajit Daimary has urged upon the state government to rethink over the imposition of Governor’s Rule in BTC.
Daimary while addressing at a Press Conference held at Kokrajhar Press Club today said that the imposition of Governor’s Rule has violated the rights of the people under the sixth scheduled region.
He said that since there are no positive cases of COVID-19 in four districts of the council till date,so there is a possibility of holding BTC elections within a short span of time and urged upon the state election commission to conduct the council elections at the earliest after the completion of the Lockdown on May 3.
He informed that a nine member delegation of BPF submitted a memorandum to the state election commissioner to conduct the council elections immediately once the COVID-19 outbreak is controlled in the state.
