Shillong (Meghalaya) .July 20 : Today, 200 students from India, including 40 from Meghalaya, crossed the Sonamura border from Bangladesh.
Officials from Government of Meghalaya has been coordinating with its counterparts Tripura. The State Government is also in touch with authorities in Indian Embassy in Bangladesh for ensuring safe evacuation of the students.
CM Conrad K Sangma confirmed their safe passage in a tweet, stating, “Forty students from Meghalaya, safely repatriated from Dhaka are on their way to Shillong from Srimantapur in Tripura.”
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sonamura have organized refreshments and packed food for the incoming students of Meghalaya from Bangladesh.
Additionally, two super deluxe sleeper coaches with security were arranged at the Sonamura border to ensure the comfort and safety of the students. Dinner for the students has been coordinated through the DC of Khliehriat at the Government Circuit House in Khliehriat.
Ensuring the students’ safety is our utmost priority. In the Government of Meghalaya’s ongoing efforts, separate nodal officers from the Administration and Police have also been appointed to oversee the entire process.
This journey marks the final leg of a carefully coordinated evacuation effort amid ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. The students, mostly pursuing medical studies, were evacuated from Dhaka earlier in the day. They first entered India through Agartala, Tripura, before beginning their transit to Shillong.
Meanwhile a total number 115 Indian students including 8 from Meghalaya entered India through ICP Dawki .
Moreover ,168 students from Nepal and 1 from Canada also entered through Dawki today .
