Shillong (Meghalaya), Dec 11: A regulated electrical shutdown has hit Shillong and Tura as the Meghalaya government launches a major initiative to strengthen the state’s power infrastructure. The shutdown is part of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), a critical project aimed at ensuring a more stable and reliable power supply for the people of Meghalaya.
The ₹900 crore project involves the installation of approximately 2600 new transformers, replacement of 3,800 km of old wires, and the laying of 4300 km of new lines. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has assured the public that every effort is being made to minimize the inconvenience caused by the shutdown, with the government working closely with MeECL and the Power Department to improve communication and provide timely updates.
The shutdown is a necessary step towards achieving the government’s goal of providing better power infrastructure for the people of Meghalaya. The government has appealed for the public’s cooperation and patience during this period, assuring them that the benefits of the project will be seen in the improved power supply in the coming days.
