Shillong ( Meghalaya), Jan 11 : The state today logged 159 new Covid cases and 2 casualties taking the number of active cases to 578 .
According to a Health department handout , 131 cases were reported in East Khasi Hills , 6 in Ri Bhoi ,4 each in West Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills and 3 in West Khasi Hills .
Two patients also succumbed to their infections in East Khasi Hills .
Chief Minister , Conrad Sangma said that no decision has been taken yet on imposition of any lockdown and in all likelihood, the govt will not be imposing lockdown keeping in mind that livelihood of people is not affected,
He added that the government is taking all precautionary measures and requesting people to be careful.
As of now, things are very much under control and enough beds are available,” he said further pointing out that government’s focus will be on hospitalization rate and the people who are in the ICU and those who require beds
The chief minister urged people to focus on two aspects. “One is vaccination, one must get vaccinated and number two is to follow protocols in terms of wearing masks and maintaining social distance as this is a very critical time.”
“This is the time when the virus is spreading and the only way to ensure it does not affect you or your family is to follow the protocols and get vaccinated,” Sangma said.
