Shillong (Meghalaya), Sep 30: In an administrative shift, Dr. Shakil P. Ahammed has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, succeeding Donald Philip Wahlang, who retired today, September 30, 2025. Dr. Ahammed, a seasoned IAS officer of the 1995 batch from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, will oversee key departments, including Home Affairs and Water Resources, and take on the additional role of State Vigilance Commissioner.
The government had prepared for the handover weeks in advance, announcing Dr. Ahammed’s appointment early to avoid any administrative vacuum. This forward-thinking approach has ensured continuity in governance, allowing the state to maintain momentum across projects and services.
Donald Philip Wahlang, the outgoing Chief Secretary, will now serve as the Chairperson of the Meghalaya State Food Commission, overseeing the implementation of the National Food Security Act and addressing citizen grievances related to food distribution.
With Dr. Ahammed at the helm, Meghalaya is poised to strengthen its administrative framework, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and effective governance.
