Shillong (Meghalaya), Feb 6: Meghalaya is set to unveil its ninth budget, with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma outlining a vision for sustained growth and development. At a pre-budget consultation, he highlighted the state’s impressive achievements, including a 10% real GSDP growth rate for three consecutive post-COVID years, making it the second-fastest growing state in real GSDP, behind Tamil Nadu.
The state’s economy is on an upward trajectory, with growing capital expenditure and increased private investment driving growth. The Chief Minister has set an ambitious goal to triple the economy by 2032, with initiatives like Mission 10 aimed at driving focused growth across priority sectors.
Meghalaya’s strong performance under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) has enabled large-scale asset creation, with 15 Externally Aided Projects underway, worth ₹12,100 crore. The state’s tourism sector is also booming, with two operational 5-star properties and four more under development.
The CM has invited citizens to share suggestions for an inclusive budget via email (megh.finead@gmail.com) or the CM Connect helpline, as the state gears up for a people-centric Budget Session scheduled from February 16 to 27.
