Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 6: Lajong reignited their title aspirations with a resounding 4-0 victory over Sawmer at the SSA Stadium, catapulting themselves to the top of the Shillong Premier League 2025 standings. The reigning champions showcased their prowess, with Banlamkupar Rynjah, Emanbha Marbaniang, Iohborlang L Lyngkhoi, and Franky Dkhar scoring the goals that sealed Sawmer’s fate.
The match began with Sawmer adopting a defensive stance, trying to counter Lajong’s relentless attacks. However, their strategy was breached in the 45th+3 minute when Banlamkupar Rynjah’s perfectly timed run resulted in the opening goal. The momentum continued in Lajong’s favor, with Emanbha Marbaniang doubling the lead in the 67th minute.
Iohborlang L Lyngkhoi further dented Sawmer’s hopes with a goal in the 71st minute, and Franky Dkhar sealed the win with a goal in the 84th minute. With this victory, Shillong Lajong tied with Mawlai on 15 points but took the top spot due to a better head-to-head record.
Nangkiew Irat, however, remains in contention and can reclaim the top spot if they secure a win against Langsning. Sawmer, on the other hand, will need to regroup and reassess their strategy to bounce back stronger in the league.
