
Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 21: The hill city of Shillong is abuzz with football fervor as the Women’s Tri-Nation Tournament kicks off at the iconic Jawahar Stadium. In a thrilling opener, IR Iran secured a 2-0 victory over India, sending the crowd into a frenzy of cheers and applause.
The match was a proud moment for Meghalaya’s sporting fraternity, with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and Meghalaya Football Association President Hamletson Dohling gracing the occasion. Indian National Team player Sangita Basfore praised Shillong’s football culture, saying it was a “great boost for women’s football at large.”
The seamless organization of the tournament is a testament to the strong collaboration between the All-India Football Federation and the Meghalaya Football Association, backed by the state government’s focus on sports infrastructure and opportunities for youth.
