Shillong ( Meghalaya), Oct 12 : Nestled in one of the localities of the pine city in Mawlai here , Savio Juniorate, a cradle of Salesian vocation stated the celebration of 60th year of its existence .
The year-long celebration of this aspirant ate began on Monday with a concelebration of Holy Mass led by the Provincial of Salesian Shillong Province at Savio Juniorate chapel to thank God for all his benedictions that he has showered on this religious institution that has produced the the vast majority of the present day Salesians in the North Eastern Region.
While delivering the homily during the Holy Mass, the Provincial of Salesian Province of here , Father Paul O. Lyngkot said celebration is a time to move forward to be closer to God, the church and the congregation.
Fr. Lyngkot also said that celebration should be a time for all the members of the Salesian congregation to read and know more about Don Bosco. Turning his attention to the aspirants, Father Lyngdoh made an ardent appeal to them to read about the patron St. Dominic Savio and also to emulate his example.
Speaking to the Salesian clergy after the Holy Mass, Father Lyngkot suggested holding the morning and evening Eucharistic adoration as part of the year-long celebration Savio Juniorate for strengthening one’s spirituality.
The celebration reminisces the dynamic leadership of Rev. Fr. Anthony Alessi who started the Savio Juniorate Aspirant age on Oct 11, 1962 and canonically erected in 1964. Savio Juniorate saw the light of day as a result of the foresight, dynamism and hard work of Rev. Fr. Aloysius Ravalico, a man of great vision and optimism who thought about the future needs of the province.
