Shillong(Meghalaya), April 19: Around 69.91 percent of the total 22,26,567 electorate have cast their ballots as polling for the two Lok Sabha seats – Shillong and Tura – in Meghalaya, passed off peacefully on Friday.
CEO , Dr BDR Tiwari, while addressing a press conference here today said that polling was conducted very peacefully throughout the state and there were no reports of any untoward incident.
He said that total voter turnout was 69.91% across the state, with Shillong constituency recording 70.26% while Tura constituency recorded 69.39%.
“We are yet to get the final polling percentage but once the final figure comes, we are sure that the overall polling percentage will increase,” CEO Dr BDR Tiwari said.
Dr Tiwari said that elaborate security arrangements are in place for safeguarding the 13 strong rooms across the 12 districts and one civil subdivision.
A total of 14,048 polling personnel were deployed to all 3,512 Polling Stations across the State. Out of total of 2,226,567 voters in the entire state, 1,400,411 voters are in Shillong constituency and 826,156 voters in Tura constituency.
The Shillong Parliamentary constituency has a total of 36 assembly segments while Tura has 24 assembly segments.
