Shillong (Meghalaya), Dec 1: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma addressed the 4th World Organic Youth Summit and the 1st Northeast India Organic Week cum Buyer Seller Meet here, emphasizing the state’s focus on supporting farmers through various mission-mode programs in agriculture and allied sectors. “Farmers are an important part of our policies,” he said, highlighting the government’s efforts to uplift them.
Sangma underscored that organic farming is deeply rooted in Meghalaya’s tradition and culture, passed down through centuries. The state aims to converge tourism and agriculture, particularly organic farming, with entrepreneurship programs to boost the sector. The summit provided a platform for knowledge sharing, relationship building and networking among participants.
The Chief Minister interacted with international delegates, discussing the state’s vision, technology adoption and logistics support for young organic entrepreneurs. The event also saw the launch of the Organic Meghalaya Compendium and the Megnolia website, further solidifying Meghalaya’s commitment to sustainable agriculture.
