Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan 9: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has released ₹76.78 crore for various development projects in the Northeast, focusing on infrastructure, livelihood, culture, and innovation.
Meghalaya received ₹13.45 crore, with funds allocated for tourism infrastructure, cultural complexes, and school buildings. The NEC also completed a Model Handloom Production Centre in Ri-Bhoi district, Meghalaya, to revitalize traditional handloom practices and enhance skills, especially among women weavers.
The projects aim to improve connectivity, promote sustainable livelihoods, and preserve cultural heritage. The NEC is working with institutions like NERCRMS, NEDFi, and NEHHDC to implement initiatives like hi-tech horticultural nurseries, smoked meat production units, and multi-agriculture projects.
The funding is expected to benefit around 10 villages with a population of nearly 7,300.
