Shillong (Meghalsya), Dec 11: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly is on the cusp of a new era as Speaker Thomas A. Sangma conducted a comprehensive inspection of the upcoming Assembly building complex at Mawdiangdiang. The visit, which took place on Thursday, was a significant milestone in the journey towards realizing the vision of a state-of-the-art legislative hub.
Accompanied by Deputy Speaker Limison D. Sangma and senior officials, the Speaker reviewed the ongoing works and was impressed with the progress made so far. The inspection focused on the power supply infrastructure, with discussions held with Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) officials to expedite the connection of the main power line to the complex.
The Speaker expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, stating that the team is confident that construction will be completed within the timeline recommended by the High-Powered Committee (HPC). With the new Assembly Hall slated for completion by June 2026, the stage is set for a seamless transition to the new complex, marking a new chapter in the state’s legislative history.
The Pre-Christmas celebration, scheduled for December 19, will be a grand affair, marking the first major event at the new premises. The celebration promises to be an exciting preview of the complex’s potential, showcasing the state’s rich cultural heritage and its commitment to progress.
