Shillong (Meghalaya), Dec 28 :Bishop of Jowai Diocese, Bishop Victor Lyngdoh has been appointed as the the new Archbishop of Shillong Archdiocese.
The announcement was made public on Monday at 4.30 pm at the Archbishop’s House in Shillong.
The Diocesan Administrator of Shillong Archdiocese, Fr John Madur in a statement said that with great joy, we announce that the Holy Father, Pope Francis has appointed Most Reverend Victor Lyngdoh as the Archbishop of Shillong Archdiocese.
‘We thank God Almighty for providing a shepherd for our Archdiocese. We congratulate Bishop Victor Lyngdoh, we welcome him and pray for him. I take this opportunity to thank each and everyone for the prayers and support given to me during the past one year,’ the statement said .
Fr John was Diocesan Administrator of Shillong Archdiocese after the demise of Archbishop Dominic Jala who died in a car accident in Colusa County in US on Oct 10, 2019 .
Bishop Victor was born in Wahlang village, Meghalaya on Jan 14, 1956 and was ordinated as a priest on Jan 25, 1987. He became a Bishop on April 2, 2006, after that he became the Bishop of Nongstoin Diocese on January 28, 2006.
On Oct 15, 2016, Bishop Victor was also appointed as the Bishop of Jowai Diocese .
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma tweeted , “Congratulations Your Grace, Most Reverend Bishop Victor Lyngdoh for being appointed as the new Archbishop of #Shillong Archdiocese. I believe that His Grace will continue to serve the Lord and share his wisdom and knowledge for the greater good of mankind.”
