New Delhi, July 7 : A delegation of four smaller North Eastern Region (NER) states, led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, met with the 16th Finance Commission to discuss key issues affecting the region. The meeting was attended by Chief Ministers and officials from Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sikkim.
The delegation expressed gratitude to Finance Commission Chairman Dr. Arvind Panagariya and members for the opportunity to articulate their concerns. The central tax allocation to states was a major focus of the meeting, with the NER states emphasizing the need for adequate funding to drive economic growth and development.
The Finance Commission’s recommendations for the next five years will be crucial for the economic advancement of these states. The meeting highlighted the importance of addressing the unique challenges faced by NER states and finding solutions to promote their economic development.
