New Delhi, June 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sworn in for a third consecutive term at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on June 9. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to the Prime Minister marking a historic moment in Indian politics. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the presidential palace in New Delhi at 7.15 pm, attended by over 9,000 guests, including heads of state from neighboring countries and the Indian Ocean region.
At 73, Narendra Modi becomes the third Prime Minister since Jawaharlal Nehru and Atal Bihari Vajpayee to have a third term in the post. India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, won the post in the 1952, 1957 and 1962 General Elections.
Along with Modi, 71 Ministers also took oath as part of the Union Cabinet. Led by the Prime Minister, the new Team includes 30 other Cabinet Ministers, 5 Ministers of State with Independent Charge and 36 Ministers of State (MoS).
The oath ceremony was attended by several global leaders including President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe, President of Maldives Mohamed Muizzu, Vice-President of Seychelles Ahmed Afif, Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay.
The first Cabinet meeting will take place on Monday at 5:00 pm.
