Shillong (Meghalaya), Feb 26 : The Government of Meghalaya launched the Strawberry Festival 2026 at Wah-Ling-Syiem Meadows, Smit village, today , February 25, 2026. The festival aims to promote agro-tourism and entrepreneurship through strawberry cultivation, providing direct market access for farmers and entrepreneurs.
The event showcased fresh strawberries and value-added products like jams, juices, and wines, offering visitors a farm-to-table experience. Deputy Commissioner Smt. R.M. Kurbah highlighted the export potential of strawberries and government schemes supporting high-value agriculture crops.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced plans to introduce the sweeter Japanese Tochiotome variety, enhancing market positioning and farmer income. Meghalaya has expanded strawberry cultivation to over 250 villages, supporting 4,000 growers. The festival will continue until February 28, with events in Sohliya and Tura later this month.
