Tura(Meghalaya), July 27: Continuing their demand for the revocation of doctors and specialists who were transferred from the Williamnagar Civil Hospital without their replacements being announced, various NGOs from Williamnagar began the first of their 2 day picket of the office of the DMHO of East Garo Hills.
The NGO, including the GSU, FKJGP, AIGU, ICFS, FAF along with residents from the town sat in protest after their demand for reinstatement of the relieved doctors was not heard.
The NGOs have been demanding the immediate appointment of an eye specialist and psychiatrist after the doctors handling these departments were transferred without a replacement being provided.
“This sudden movement of doctors without their replacement has placed a huge burden on the common people who now have to move to faraway places for treatment, something that they can ill afford,” said the NGOs.
The civil society groups had earlier written to the chief minister, besides the medical department seeking a revocation of the transfer orders until a replacement was provided, which is still to be heard.
The NGOs began their 3 day protest today and have asserted that the protests would only get stronger until the authorities relent and provide the district what is so woefully required.
