Shillong (Meghalaya), Sept 22 : Death occured to Senior Editor of popular Khasi Daily , U Nongain Hima Lambok Thabah early this morning at Super care Hospital here .
He was 52 .
Thabah known for his amicable nature was extremely popular among the journalists in the region .
According to family sources , Thabah returned from his duty yesterday night and was keeping perfectly well and was spending quality time with his grand -daughter .
After his dinner he complained of stomach ache and started vomiting .He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he subsequently died . Immediately after his death a Covid test was performed and he was found to be negative .
He started his carrer as a reporter of khasi daily Rupang .
In the year 2003 he took up the position of the editor of Nongsain Hima after spending more than 25 year in field reporting .
Thabah was know for his simplicity , honesty and truthfulness who was always readay to help anyone at times of need .
He was the first journalist from Meghalaya to be awarded with the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award in 2014. He was awarded for stories on denial of PDS items including rice and sugar to more than 20 families for years at Mawsynram village in East Khasi Hills District of the state .
The impact of his stories was so strong that all the 20 families got justice after his investigative reports .
Minister of IPR , James Sangma sent his heartfelt condolences on the passing away of Lambok Thabah . In his message he said , “His experience and dedication had enabled him to contribute immensely to the state’s media fraternity. I pray that the Almighty give his family the strength to withstand this tragic moment. May his soul rest in peace”.
