Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 26: A 70-year-old Covid patient died today afternoon after collapsing in the bathroom at his residence .
According to information available ,the person has been identified as Rajendra Shah from Cantonment area nean Anjalee Cinema Hall .
The patient had tested Covid positive on Aug 21 .
According to official sources ,the person was mentally challenged and was under home quarantine. He was brought to Shillong Civil Hospital at around 3:30pm where the doctors declared him brought dead.
Authorities are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind his death as he was asymptomatic.
Meanwhile , 49 fresh Covid cases were detected in the state on Wednesday taking the total number of cases so far to 2,050. However ,the active cases stand at 1168.
Among the new cases, 32 were detected from East khasi Hills District which includes 30 general public and 2 from Armed Forces .
East Garo Hills reported 9 cases while West Garo Hills reported 7 cases. 1 fresh case was reported from Ri Bhoi district today .
A total 42 patients were discharged today after recovery .
