Imphal (Manipur), Sep 19: Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed, and five others injured in a terrorist ambush in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Friday evening. The incident occurred around 5:45 pm in the Nambol Sabal Leikai area, where unidentified terrorists opened fire on a vehicle carrying Assam Rifles personnel.
The attack, which is believed to have been carried out by cadres of valley-based armed outfits, resulted in the deaths of Naib Subedar Shyam Gurung and Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kashyap. The injured personnel were rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal, where they are currently stable.
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla strongly condemned the attack, expressing profound grief and extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. “The Governor reaffirmed that such heinous acts of violence will not be tolerated under any circumstances and warned that they will be met with the strongest resolve to safeguard peace and stability in the region,” the Manipur Raj Bhavan said in a statement.
Security forces have launched extensive search operations to track down the perpetrators, with police and Assam Rifles officials working together to cordon off the area. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. The incident has raised concerns about the fragile security situation in Manipur, which has witnessed several similar incidents in the past.
