Shillong (Meghalaya), Sept 4: A rally taken out by Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) turned unruly on Monday here and around half dozen members were arrested by the police.
The president of HITO, Donbok Dhar was summoned by the IO of at Sadar police station in connection with a case registered against him in July for wearing black uniform under section 171 and 34 IPC r/w 105 of the MP Act.
The black uniforms are similar to the uniform of the Special Operation Team (SOT) of Meghalaya Police.
This afternoon the members assembled near SBI, Main branch and started marching to the Sadar Police Station.
While the HITO president and few members were allowed to enter the Sadar PS, others were asked to wait outside.
Trouble broke out when they started pelting stones at the police and the magistrates who were trying to prevent them from marching towards the State Secretariat.
Police resorted to mild lathi charge and fired tear gas shells. A DSP was injured while trying to stop them from proceeding towards the Secretariat.
Police have so far arrested six HITO members.
