Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 15: A recent news report has sparked controversy, prompting the South Garo Hills District Administration to issue a clarification regarding the summon issued to YouTuber Tatu Marak. The Administration asserts that the summon aims to seek clarification on Tatu Marak’s recent news report on flood relief efforts in the Chokpot C&RD block, which allegedly presented a one-sided story.
According to the Administration, Tatu Marak’s report only featured interviews with affected individuals, without seeking clarification from government officials or the District Administration to corroborate the statements made. Consequently, the report uploaded on the ‘NEIG NEWS’ YouTube channel does not accurately reflect the efforts on the ground, potentially undermining the Administration’s relief efforts.
The clarification comes amid condemnation from the Garo Hills Press and Media Association (GHMPA) regarding alleged interference by the District Administration in the functioning of independent media.
The Administration’s statement seeks to address concerns and provide context to the summon issued to Tatu Marak.
