Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 7 : Chief Electoral Officer, Dr. B.D.R. Tiwari, convened a meeting with representatives of political parties today, October 7, 2025, to discuss preparations for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The meeting aimed to brief the parties on the SIR process and rationalization of polling stations.
During the meeting, Dr. Tiwari informed the political parties that the Election Commission of India has approved the rationalization of polling stations, increasing the total number to 3,615, a net increase of 64 polling stations. He urged all political parties to appoint their Booth Level Agents (BLAs) at the earliest to ensure effective coordination during the revision process.
The CEO also highlighted significant growth in voters compared to the 2005 electoral rolls, with over 9 lakh new voters added in 20 years. The total number of electors now stands at 23,06,384, with 11,37,316 male electors and 11,69,062 female electors. Additionally, the Election Commission of India has announced that Aadhaar cards will be accepted as valid identity proof for voter registration, in addition to the existing 11 documents.
