Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan 12: The Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, has issued an advisory warning citizens about a surge in fake e-challan messages claiming traffic violations and demanding immediate payment.
The messages, sent via SMS, WhatsApp, or email, contain suspicious links that can lead to financial loss, data theft, or malware installation. Fraudsters use tactics like urgency and fake official websites to trick victims into sharing sensitive details.
To stay safe, residents are advised to verify challans through the official Ministry of Road Transport & Highways website and avoid clicking on suspicious links or sharing personal details.
