Shillong(Meghalaya), April 23: In order to safeguard the public at large from an uncontrollable surge of the COVID-19 pandemic, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong in an order issued today under section 144 Cr. P.C. read together with Regulation 3 of the Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, COVID–19 Regulations, 2020 has prohibited any gathering of people and entry of visitors within the premises of the Golflink on every Sunday, till further orders.
The order was issued in view of the rapid rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in East Khasi Hills District, wherein a large number of cases have been detected amongst the returnees, high risk contacts and others within Shillong Agglomeration area and since the opening of tourist spots in East Khasi Hills District was prohibited by the State Government with effect from 23rd April, 2021 in an order issued on 21st April, 2021.
The order was also issued because Golflink is a popular spot for tourists and visitors in Shillong City, and the District Magistrate informed that reports have been received about overcrowding and non-maintaining of social distancing and mask-wearing at the said place especially on weekends and since the COVID-19 virus is known to spread especially in places where large number of people congregate,
The order states that non-compliance to SOPs at all times will be met with penalties as per law.
The Deputy Commissioner (Excise), East Khasi Hills District also in an order issued has declared the closure of all liquor bars, hotels, clubs (having license for selling liquor on the premise) with effect from 23rd to 30th April, 2021 under Shillong agglomeration.
It may be mentioned here that Shillong agglomeration includes whole of Municipal area, whole of Cantonment area, all areas under Mawlai C&RD Block including Census Towns, Mawpat C&RD Block including Census Towns, Mylliem C&RD Block from Umshyrpi Bridge upto 7th Mile, Upper Shillong including Madanrting, Mawblei, Laitkor, Nongkseh, Umlyngka and Lawsohtun
