Shillong (Meghalaya), Nov 21: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma visited Umsning on November 21, 2025, and participated in the Umsning Town Hall Meet, where he interacted with locals and addressed their concerns. The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to connecting with people at the grassroots level, saying, “Issues and problems can be discussed in the comfort of offices, but we are here today because we genuinely care and want to see and hear from the people themselves.”
During the event, Sangma announced several initiatives to improve infrastructure and facilities in Umsning. He directed the Sports department to upgrade the Umsning Sports and Cultural Club ground, prioritizing fencing, VIP galleries, and toilets. The Chief Minister also sanctioned ₹1.5 crore for constructing drains in the market area and allocated ₹20 lakhs for streetlights from the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund. Funds for repairing pavements will also be worked out.
The Chief Minister felicitated meritorious students and athletes, presenting each with ₹20,000 from the Chief Minister’s Special Grant, and announced assistance to schools for buying musical instruments. He also promised to convene a meeting with PHE, DCs of Ri Bhoi, and East Khasi Hills to discuss the non-supply of water under the Jal Jeevan Mission and find alternative solutions.
The event marked a significant step towards addressing the concerns of the local community and working towards the development of Umsning town and its surrounding areas. The Chief Minister assured the gathering that the government will work hand in hand with the people to ensure better infrastructure and facilities for the upliftment and betterment of society.
