Shillong (Meghalaya), April 23 : On Monday , 22 April 2024, in coordinated joint operations, troops of the Border Security Force Meghalaya, along with local police, achieved significant success in curbing illicit sugar smuggling activities across the international border into Bangladesh.
Two separate operations resulted in the apprehension of 4 Indian smugglers and the seizure of more than 44,000 kilograms of sugar loaded in six vehicles near the international border of South Garo Hills, Meghalaya.
During the special joint operation, troops from 1 Bn BSF noticed suspicious movements along the international border and promptly initiated the operation. As a result, 790 bags of sugar were seized, and four Indian smugglers residents from Goalpara, Assam, were apprehended.
In another joint ops, the troops of 200 Bn BSF along with police rep intercepted 2 vehicles loaded with 94 bags of sugar.
The seized goods and apprehended persons were handed over to Rongra Police Station for further legal action.
