Williamnagar (Meghalaya), Dec 12 : The state government has embarked on an innovative initiative to inspire the younger generation by bringing the heroic story of Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma, a revered Garo freedom fighter, to life through plays and dramas in schools and colleges. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced the initiative at the 153rd Death Anniversary of Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma, held at Togan Park in Chisobibra, Williamnagar.
The initiative aims to encourage students to connect with their heritage and learn from the values and ideologies of their forefathers. A detailed script on Pa Togan’s life is being prepared and will be shared with educational institutions, enabling students to enact his story and appreciate his bravery and sacrifice.
Pa Togan’s courageous stand against the British Empire has left an indelible mark on the state’s history. His sacrifice continues to inspire generations, and the government’s initiative is a testament to its commitment to preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of preserving historical narratives that strengthen community pride and highlighted Pa Togan’s bravery and sacrifice in the fight against the British Empire. The government has also allocated funds for infrastructure development at Chisobibra, including ₹17 lakh under the World Tourism Day Community-led Tourism Fund and the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund (CMSDF), with an additional ₹20 lakh to be released soon.
This initiative is set to ignite a sense of pride and belonging among the youth, reminding them of their glorious past and the heroes who shaped their land.
