Sohra(Meghalaya), Nov 19: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated the Operation Theatre Complex at the Sohra Community Health Centre (CHC) in Saitsohpen on Wednesday, Nov 19 . This significant development marks a major milestone in the state’s healthcare sector, enhancing access to essential and emergency surgical care for the local community.
During the occasion, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for Sohra Market Phase-II, a move that underscores the government’s commitment to overall development in the area. Praising the CHC’s transformation, he cited it as a model for other health centers, highlighting the state’s concerted efforts in reducing maternal mortality rates.
The CM announced a major policy shift towards Outcome-Based Budgeting, starting with the health department. This approach will allocate funds based on performance and needs, ensuring efficient utilization of resources. He also informed that the World Bank will fund the Umtyngar to Mawsmai road project, promoting tourism in the area.
The new OT Complex will significantly reduce the need for patients to travel to Shillong and other places, providing financial relief to patients and their families. The Chief Minister emphasized that the health sector is integral to tourism and that the CHC is a vital asset for the local community, supporting both residents and tourists alike.
