Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 7: 3 persons and 12 buffaloes were killed when a truck they were travelling in fell into a gorge on Sunday midnight near Mawkhap junction on National Highway 40.
Luckly, 2 of the passengers including the driver of the truck, Yomiki Kharshandi managed to escape unhurt.
The dead were identified as Kyndaiborlang Kurbah, Banpeitlang Marbaniang and Welbokstar Sohlang.
East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtynger in a press statement said on August 6 midnight, information was received that one LP truck (ML05 G 9528) driven by Yomiki Kharshandi (20) loaded with 12 buffaloes, proceeding from Pynursla towards Laitlyngkot broke down at Langkyrdem and was repaired. On reaching a turning at Khoh-yiar near Mawkhap junction, NH -40, the gear got jammed as a result of which the vehicle slipped back and fell into a gorge. The police reached the spot and it was learnt that one occupant of the vehicle Bansiew Khongklian, a resident of Phlangshlain managed to climb up while the driver was found alive.
