Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 21: Ri Bhoi police nabbed 3 HNLC cadres including, Equest Langsiang (31) from Bethany Hospital junction on Tuesday at around 12:30 am and recovered incriminating documents, evidence from his mobile phone. A case has been registered vide Nongpoh PS Case No.87(08)2024 U/s 113 (3) (5) BNS. Two other members arrested have been identified as Equest Langsiang (31) and Deiborlangki Sariang (31) of Nartiang and Markhlan Biam (34) of Laskein in West Jaintia Hills District.
The trio were attempting to plant IEDs at several places in Khasi and Jaintia Hills during the Independence Day celebrations.
Ri Bhoi SP Jagpal Singh Dhanoa in a press statement said that the arrests were made after credible source information was received that Equest has conspired with Bangladesh based members of proscribed outfit HNLC and several other unknown accused to assemble and plant IEDs at several places in Khasi & Jaintia Hills.
The statement said that during preliminary interrogation Equest admitted of being a member of HNLC and was planning to plant IEDs along with other members of HNLC and revealed the names of two more persons who were also involved in the case.
The other 2 HNLC cadres ,Deiborlangki and Marhkhlan also admitted of being members of HNLC and they were also planning IED blasts on August 14 & 15 on the direction of Bangladesh based leaders of proscribed outfit HNLC, the statement added.
