Shillong (Meghalaya), May 24: The sudden death of Meghalaya-born violin teacher Kresitha Gabil Momin in Dubai has left the state’s music community in shock. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma stepped in directly to help her grieving family navigate the crisis.
Momin, originally from Garo Hills, had taught violin in Dubai for several years and mentored dozens of young musicians from India and abroad. She passed away unexpectedly earlier this week. She passed away due to a cardiac arrest.
On learning of the tragedy, Sangma coordinated with the Indian Consulate in Dubai and Meghalaya officials to expedite paperwork and clearances. The state assisted the family with repatriation formalities, travel logistics, and documentation to bring her mortal remains home.
“Kresitha was a daughter of Meghalaya who carried our music to the world. We stand with her family in this hour of grief,” the CM said, extending deepest condolences.
Students and peers remembered her as a patient teacher who blended western classical training with a deep love for Khasi and Garo folk tunes.
