Shillong (Meghalaya), April 7 : The State’s U-23 women’s cricket team secured a thrilling six-wicket victory against Arunachal Pradesh in the NECDC U-23 Women’s T20 Tournament in Rangpo, Sikkim. After losing their opener to Sikkim by 67 runs, Meghalaya needed this win to stay in contention for the next round.
Cheanchi K Sangma’s exceptional bowling spell, claiming 3/14 in 4 overs, restricted Arunachal Pradesh to 99/7 in 20 overs. Monica Singh (22) and Suriti Kumari Ray (36 not out) led the chase, with Suriti hitting the winning run in the 16.4 overs. Cheanchi was awarded Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya’s U-19 men’s team faces a tough road ahead after losing to Manipur by 144 runs in Dimapur. They take on hosts Nagaland tomorrow in their second Group A match.
