Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 15: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday inaugurated the newly constructed building of Nongkharai Presbyterian Higher Secondary School in Umsohpieng, here. Addressing the gathering, the CM highlighted Meghalaya’s remarkable progress over the past seven and a half years, citing the state’s consistent 10% annual growth rate, which has catapulted it to the second-fastest growing economy in the country.
The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s focus on education, announcing a significant investment of ₹3,654 crores in the sector. He mentioned ongoing reforms, including a structured salary system for ad hoc and SSA teachers, aimed at strengthening the education system over the next 10-20 years.
The CM encouraged parents, teachers, and communities to guide young people towards constructive pursuits like sports, music, and entrepreneurship. He also announced a contribution from the Chief Minister’s Special Grant Fund to provide musical instruments to the students of Sijun Memorial School and Nongkharai Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, highlighting the role of music in brain development and nurturing creativity.
The ceremony was attended by Minister Methodius Dkhar, MLA Remington Gabil Momin, local MDC Lurshai Kharbani, and other dignitaries. The students showcased their talents through cultural performances, adding to the festive atmosphere. The Chief Minister congratulated the school’s Managing Committee, teaching staff, parents, and students for their dedication to education.
