Shillong(Meghalaya), Mar 27: The Court of Smti. Swapna G. Momin, Special Judge (POCSO) East Khasi Hills, here, has convicted Maitshaphrang Kharmawlong, accused in Rynjah PS Case No. 64 (5) 2016, under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and Section 506 IPC.
The court sentenced the accused to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 12 years and pay a fine of Rs. 10,000, with an additional 2 months of simple imprisonment in case of default.
Additionally, the accused was sentenced to imprisonment for 3 years and a fine of Rs. 5,000 for the offence under Section 506 IPC, with an additional 1 month of simple imprisonment in case of default.
The case was investigated by Inspector Raymond Kurkalang, currently posted as Officer In-Charge at Mawngap Police Station. In a separate ruling, the same court convicted another accused on the same date.
