Kokrajhar(Assam) ,Mar 10: Though,the notification for the ensuing BTC council elections is yet to be announced , mass joining of former rebel leaders and prominent personalities to the UPPL are going on different parties in the region.
The United Peoples Party Liberal(UPPL) is gaining mass support ahead of the council elections as common people are coming forward to support the party.The party has promised to bring good governance,corruption free society and healthy integration among all sections of the communities in days to come under the leadership of party president Pramod Boro.
Nearly 1300 new members from different organizations and parties including firebrand leaders of the disbanded Saoraigwra faction NDFB, B R Ferenga, military secretary of disbanded NDFB- Progressive B Sudem,home secretary I Dominic joined the UPPL at a joining ceremony of the party held held at Dotma today.
Out of the 1300 new members,742 members are from NDFB-Progressive who have joined the party today ,apart from disbanded NDFB-S,PJACBM etc.
On Monday, two time former BTC MCLA and senior BPF leader Afjal Haque Sarkar joined the UPPL along with other 26 members in Kokrajhar.
Sarkar was the president of BTC region Religious Minority Council.
Sarkar, resigned from the primary membership of BPF in the morning and later joined the UPPL in the afternoon at a ceremony held in party office at Kokrajhar.
It is considered to be a big blow for the ruling BPF ahead the BTC council elections.
UPPL president Pramod Boro welcomed the new members and felicitated them with traditional ‘aronai’ and’phulon Gamocha’.
Former ABSU president and now UPPL president Boro alleged that BPF ruled BTC administration has been indulging large scale corruption and anomalies in the council region during their 17 years reign in the region.He added that there was no good administration in the council as the common people have been deprived from development and welfare initiatives due to the misruled in the region.He said that UPPL was for the welfare and development of the common masses since it’s inception.
He emphasized that UPPL will dedicate more towards upliftment and integration among common people in the coming days.He said that people from region want’ parivartan’ and development in the entire BTR area .
” Good administration and healthy environment is the key issue of the UPPL “, added Boro.
Sarkar who joined the UPPL today, said that he and his supporters joined the UPPL ahead of the council elections as the BPF couldn’t fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the common masses during their 17 – year old rule.
He said that people from different areas have been deprived from their frontal development and welfare initiatives due to insincerity from the ruling BPF.
He said that people want good governance and healthy integration that is the reason why he and his supporters have joined the UPPL .
Former MP and ex UPPL president UG Brahma claimed that UPPL was gaining it’s momentum in the region.
He has expressed confidence that his party would majority and win in the upcoming council elections.
He has leveled charges that the present BPF ruled BTC administration was indulging large scale corruption in the region.
He said that common masses wanting ‘parivartan’ and accordingly are coming forward to extend support to the UPPL , wholeheartedly.
