Guwahati(Assam), July 3 : With 479 new Covid cases in the state on Thursday the total number of cases in the state has gone up to 9434 .
The capital city Guwahati which has been seeing a purge in Covid cases in the past one week recorded 238 new cases. Majority of the cases are due to community transmission .
Infact , Delhi is also worried about the sudden spurt of Covid cases in Guwahati and the Union Home Minister Amit Sha called up the state health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma to increase the testing capacity to 10000 cases daily.
Delhi is concerned that if the situation in Guwahati is not properly monitored the situation may turn Like Delhi and Mumbai .
The state today got 2 lakh Rapid Point of Care Antigen Detection Test kits, a new tool approved by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for quick diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 in field settings.
It gives immediate results, has moderate sensitivity but high specificity. In Guwahati I lakh kits will be deployed where the spread is very rapid. . This, coupled with ongoing good standard RT-PCR tests, is likely to sharpen the testing abilities.
Health Minister Sarma in a late night tweet said , “📌Alert ~ 479 new #COVID19+ cases detected today. Out of these, 238 cases were reported from Guwahati City alone.Request people to take proper precautions.”
